(0). INTRO (How I did my research)
To write the Manuscript "Don't Waste your Mind - Forming Prosumers" .
- I've included all the information I've got with the previous definition research, to know were I should be placed.
To have a good general view explanation I decided to by some books and look for some reports and campaigns about recycling; to know how deep and useful they are.
- BEST PRACTICES FOR INTERNATIONAL SUPPORT FOR SOCIAL ENTREPRENEURSHIP. Book Report by Clara Navarro & Alfred Vernis ESADE- University Ramon Llull and Generalitat de Catalunya.
- CRADLE TO CRADLE by -REMAKING THE WAY WE MAKE THINGS – by Michael Braungart & William McDonough.
- DIY FASHION – Do it Yourself - by Selena Francis-Bryden.
- ECO FASHION SASS BROWN.
- ECOLOGICAL INTELIGENCE by Daniel Goleman.
- ENVIRONMENTAL PERSPECTIVE - Textile fibers. Report by Foundation TIERRA, Written by Enric Carrera and Gallissà (Professor of Department of Textile and Paper. UPC) (Nov1998).
- FASHION TO TIGHTEN, The precariousness of garment workers and corporate social responsibility. Report by Intermon Oxfam. (Morocco -Feb2004)
- SOCIOLOGY OF TRENDS by Erner Guillaume.
- THE CONTRIBUTION OF DESIGN IN THE PROCESS OF SUSTAINABLE LOCAL DEVELOPMENT: The Campus Summer Arts of “Guía” as a case study in the Canaries Islands. By Carlos Jimenez teacher at Ramon Llull University of Design.
- THE POWER OF FASHION –about design and meaning- by various authors.
-I went to Barcelona to check that the eco-fashion, social & ethics also have a spot at fairs like Bcn BRANDERY winter. There was a conference organised by the platform of ethical consumption "Be Cool, Be Conscious". Some exhibitors were there with interesting social and recycling proposals.
-Info from assisting to a Congress of Social Entrepreneurs.
I had a talk with Carlos Jimenez (teacher of Eco-Design in ESDI) and Vanesa Freixa Social entrepreneur of “Obrador Xisqueta”.
-Looking for where all second hands clothes are going, I've visited a recycling / selector plant of textile witch was a social work insertion enterprise. And guess what ... Goes all re-wholesale.
The clothing is collected, selected, is put back in and re-wrapping wholesale, it is washed only the peaces that stays locally and the rest is re-sell to people of the region(second hand markets) and also containers to sell to poorest countries.
Taking for reference "Cradle to Cradle" philosophy and the education report "ENVIRONMENTAL PERSPECTIVE - Textile Fibres"
I writed giving all information to know how to recognise textile material and encouraging to ask information about how clothes are made.
Important decisions and conclusions:
- I took too much time using Internet for my research; although looking at the terminology was at first useful; looking for images and examples I’ve got pretty confuse, and brought me nowhere.
- This terminology is also growing, there is many words related with Ecology and Sustainable world, but also a misuse of that by commercials and marketing campaigns, smart enough to use that terminology on their favor; trying to cleaning corporations faces/logos.
- Also I saw that there are already many designers working on it. Slow Fashion designers using only bio-organic products on their designs. Recycling, repairing, reusing & transforming.
After visiting the places and having a good talk with eco-designers, teachers and people implicated to the eco/sustainable world, I feel release because they gave me more arguments to base my eco consciousness Philosophy, and encourage me to take part giving a full form of eco mentality to base my future projects.
I want to help to take responsibility on the time you buy a product to thing what are you going to do when you decide to get rid of it.
And I want to take part on the recycling process due to most of the clothing now a days it is a mix of synthetic fibers and toxic tints, non degradable of dangerous for our environment. Doe to that I begin my project “Don’t waste your hands” making myself an example of textile recycling.
Question was where I feed on all that?
How to make a proper presentation being clear?
(1)- TITEL:
DON’T WASTE YOUR (HANDS/MIND) YOURSELF - Forming Prosumers (smart consumers).
(2)-ISSUE:
My project wants to make stronger consciousness about Textile Recycling. Making a deep description of the causes that brings us to the actual era (Postmodernity and excess of information society) and also theoretical & practical solutions to become an eco-ethical & sustainable civilized society.
(3)- PROBLEM TO SOLVE: Take consciousness about non degradable textile.
Be sure about what you know, and how and where that product is made witch you are taking home to use, to ingest or to dress. It is a consumer right!
All this to form a society of Prosumers (professional consumers), who require a detailed and descriptive label.
The consumer has to take responsibility when they making a purchase, make them know that they are investing their money (on the craftsman or the transport or manufacture?)

(4)- PERSONAL MOTIVATION:
Because my origins and family I’ve grown up appreciating and respecting traditions and our contact/impact with our environment.
Because my background on International Business, I’ve learn how companies use Marketing (psychology of the consumer) to manipulated desires.
Now Communication should allow me to express it and use it following my Principals.
(5)- SOCIETY RELEVATION:
Recycling and sampling: Codes & Meanings.
The significance of clothing is 'read', as a language, because we as a culture have made specific 'agreements' about what meanings we assign to certain items. These codes have been created throughout history and change continues. The meanings of the external characteristics of a subculture as the hippies used to be much stronger than now. Clothing usually consists of a game with the existing codes and tries to surprise us by illogical or surprising combinations. This repetition of existing images and meanings and play with the expectations of the viewer around here, you can also see in others design and art and is related to the spirit of the times: Postmodernity. Working on Semiotics and Concepts.
(6)- TARGET GROUP:
The present project is addressed to all kind of public who begin to ask themselves how to be respectful to our environment without getting confused about the excess of information (blog with links)
Forming EcoProsumers educating people, forming professional consumers, giving information about how products are made, to make them take responsibility about what and how they consume.
It would be interesting as green fashion or Trashion example, to encourage everyone to use their waste (used clothes) .
(7)-IMPACT ON SOCIETY:
Pretending get impact on the young generations giving tangible and documented definitions/ concept essence with Words & Actions (reed, think & act).
When seems that they are growing on (Capitalism system and Industrial Society) getting used to abstract references, and flashing rain of images (=Advertisements) in order to get to their brains.
I hoop that this helps to touch the consciousness of designers and educators.
